Federal Court Rules Budget Cuts Unlawfully Jeopardize Health Care For Millions Of Californians

�A union court in Los Angeles has enjoined the 10 percent cut in reimbursement rates to nearly all health concern providers in the doS Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal political program that took effect on July 1, finding that the cuts would irreparably harm access to wellness care for nearly 7 million Californians. In an emergency budget session in early 2008, the state legislative assembly and governor agreed to a 10 percent cut off to reimbursement rates for Medi-Cal providers to take effect July 1. Health care providers filed at least terzetto different lawsuits in May, alleging that the state had failed to dress Medi-Cal reimbursement rates at a level that ensures access to health care for Californians on Medi-Cal, in misdemeanor of united States Department of State law. The other lawsuits are still pending.


Although a legislative conference citizens committee voted to reduce or eliminate some of the cuts in June, Medi-Cal still faces the 10% reimbursement rate cuts and additional cuts in the proposed FY 2009 budget. Wright returns for next Bond movie

Jeffrey Wright is to reprise his role as CIA agent Felix Leiter in the new James Bond film.
Variety reports that shooting on the 22nd 007 film begins today at Pinewood Studios in the UK.
Marc Forster ('The Kite Runner', 'Finding Neverland') is in the director's chair.

Gene Simmons : "Fans Have Killed Music"

Kiss frontman Gene Simmons has blamed the collapse of the music industry and dwindling sales figures on fans who no longer buy releases.

Simmons is talking about those music lovers who choose to download their music illegally instead of the traditional method of buying CDs, vinyl and legal downloads.

"The record industry is dead, it's six feet underground, and unfortunately the fans have done this." Says Simmons.

"They've decided to download and file share. There is no record industry around so we're going to wait until everybody settles down and becomes civilised."

Yes - Yes Say No To Concert

British rocker YES have cancelled their 40th anniversary tour of North America after singer JON ANDERSON was diagnosed with acute respiratory failure.

The 63-year-old was hospitalised last month (May08) after a severe asthma attack, and doctors have told him he will jeopardise his health unless he rests for at least six months.

Anderson says, "I'd like everyone know how deeply disappointed I am by this turn of events.

"I was looking forward to celebrating our music with the amazing family of Yes fans once again; but as we all know, health must come before anything else."

The tour, the band's first trek through North America since 2004, was scheduled to begin on 12 July (08) in Quebec City, Canada.

Coldplay - Coldplay To Perform Free Shows

British rockers COLDPLAY are to treat fans to two free shows to celebrate the release of their new album VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS.

The Yellow hitmakers will perform at London's Brixton academy on 16 June (08) and at New York's Madison Square Garden a week later on 23 June (08).

But the band will be performing for free, telling fans to keep checking their official website where they will release details on how to obtain tickets for the gigs.

Richie gives birth to a baby girl

Socialite and reality TV star Nicole Richie and her boyfriend, Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, have become the parents of a baby daughter.
People magazine quoted a spokesman for Richie's manager as saying that Harlow Winter Kate Madden was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Friday.
It is the first child for 26-year-old Richie and 28-year-old Madden.

Nets expected to be generous with series renewals

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - For broadcast series
still hoping for a renewal, the past week was rough sledding.


CBS' "Shark" and ABC's "Women's Murder Club" returned to
post about a 2.0 rating among adults 18 to 49, joining
low-rated outings by fellow "bubble shows" "Moonlight" (CBS),
"Boston Legal" (ABC) and "Reaper" (The CW).


But with most scripted series struggling from a writers'
strike ratings hangover, the networks seem inclined to give
some of the lagging shows a second chance this fall.


Here's how things stand:


* "Men in Trees": Producers of ABC's drama were recently
told the show will not return for a third season. Last year,
the show scored a surprising early renewal, but in April it
averaged only about a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic.


* "Boston Legal": A recent episode of "Legal" hit a series
low, but, then again, what show hasn't? Given a strong lead-in,
"Legal" tends to hold a reliable number. It's also an Emmy
darling. A likely pickup.


* "Reaper": The word on CW's cult-favorite supernatural
comedy-drama has turned unexpectedly positive. Though recent
episodes have pulled about a 1.1 rating, the CW needs a
suitable Thursday night partner for "Supernatural" because next
season is expected to be the last for "Smallville." Plus, after
adding DVR use, "Reaper" ratings often climb more percentage
points than any other series, and CW executives are fond of the
show.


* "Shark": Another network might be inclined to give this
drama another chance, but CBS sets a high ratings bar for
pickups, and "Shark" has a tough time clearing it. Industry
oddsmakers are pessimistic about a fall return.

Al Green - Green To Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Soul singer AL GREEN is set to receive a lifetime achievement award at the Black Entertainment TV (BET) Hip-Hop Awards.

The US star will pick up the gong when the awards ceremony takes place on June 24th in Los Angeles.

He is famous for songs such as LET'S STAY TOGETHER and LOVE and HAPPINESS.

Other nominations for awards include rapper T-PAIN who appears three times in the best collaboration category.

Stephen Hill, executive vice president of BET, told the BBC: "T-PAIN is everywhere. He's got five nominations, none of them for his own work."

KANYE WEST and KEYSHIA COLE have both received three nominations while MARY J BLIGE, ALICIA KEYS and FLO RIDA all received one each.

QUINCY JONES is due to receive an award for his humanitarian work while LIL WAYNE, MARIAH CAREY and MARY J BLIGE are set to perform.

BET provides entertainment geared towards young black adults and produces shows such as College Hill, Rap City, Meet The Faith and American Gangster.
